Maputo, Mozambik

Mozambik. Zapraszam do obejrzenia fotoreportażu z dwudniowej wizyty w stolicy kraju, Maputo.

Mozambique. A former Portugese colony that became independent merely 35 years ago and remains one of the poorest countries in the world. Have a good time watching photos from my two-days trip to Maputo, the country’s capital.

Port w stolicy Mozambiku, Maputo. Tuż przed lądowaniem rzuca się w oczy wcinające się głęboko w morze molo. Przynajmniej coś, co molo przypomina…

Harbour in Maputo. Just before landing on the airport you can see a long pier reaching almost the middle of the bay.

What stikes you in the very moment you step out of the plane is the air humidity, almost as high as in a sauna, and architecture that immediately brings the times of the PRL to your mind…

Wiatr we włosach i moskity w zębach – bezcenne…

Definitely, you need to get yourself a ride in one of these… The three-wheel taxi may not be very Fast, but as it doesn’t come with with a front windscreen or a helmet, it still is Furious… Wind in your hair and mosquitos in your teeth – priceless…

Pięciogwiazdkowy hotel. I to z jak najbardziej zasłużonymi gwiazdkami.

A five star hotel. The stars – well deserved…

Takie miejsca pokazują, że Mozambik, podobnie jak wiele innych krajów afrykańskich, to kraj ogromnych kontrastów.

Places like this prove Mozambique to be a country of great contrasts.

Bez karty MasterCard ani rusz.

Within a 100 meters distance from the sea shore you are likely to find only such hotels. Very exclusive and mostly very expensive. Free WiFi in the whole hotel, waiters speaking fluently 4 foreign languages and a 1000 USD bill for a night. Better make sure you brought your Golden Master Card.

This is more than just a nice view. This is an insurance of safety. Something rather rare when you’re there…

Ciekawa dekoracja ściany. Wazy i flakony podświetlone od tyłu robią duże wrażenie…

Interesting wall decoration. The backlight made quite an impression…

…but only when you leave the hotel you can really get to know this country… Local art dealers. Plenty of them. Many of these works are really nice and unique. However, exotic wood, high quality leather and fine workmanship is going to cost…

Laurentina – jedna z 3 lokalnych marek piwa. Bardzo przeciętnego zresztą…

Laurentina – one of the local beer brands. Very average…

mcel to jedna z najmocniej reklamowanych marek na rynku. Lokalny monopolista komórkowy.

One of the most intensivly advertised brands. A local cellular operator.

Przepiękne, egzotycznie wyglądające drzewa. Można je tam spotkać na każdym kroku.

You can see those exotic-looking trees all around…

Stragany i handel uliczny są tam chyba bardziej popularne niż "normalne" sklepy.

Stalls and street trade seem to be more popular there than traditional stores.

Zbyt podobne…

Those paintings get kind of boring after a while. Quite interesting, but all alike. Too much alike…

Personally, I woudn’t recommend shopping in a place like this…

Bank Millennium – wg moich obserwacji absolutny lider bankowości w Maputo.

Millennium Bank – according to my observations – a true leader on the banking market in Maputo. They have their sublidiaries nearly on all the streets in the city, and the big umbrellas with Millennium logo can be found in every restaurant. Unbelievable! Like in Portugal…

A common view in Africa. I always wonder why those things never fall down from their heads…

The poverty is everywhere… Beggars, lepers, kids playing with trash… The more of this you see, the more unbearable it gets…

Kościół, który jest jedną z wizytówek Maputo. Znajdziecie go na większości widokówek z Maputu. Niestety zamknięty. Łańcuchami i kłódkami. Już zardzewiałymi…

A church in the center of the city. It can be found on most of the postcards from Maputo. We found it to be closed. With chains and padlocks. Rusted…

Tego już widokówki nie pokazują…

You won’t find such views on the postcards…

Jedna z nielicznych uliczek, które robią pozytywne i radosne wrażanie. Niestety zapach uliczka ta dzieli z sąsiednimi, już mniej optymistycznymi…

One of the very few streets that make posive and optimistic impression on you. The smell that it shares with its neighbours, however, is not so optimistic…

Jedno z niewielu miejsc, które budzą skojarzenia z jakąś "cywilizacją". Ambasada i centrum kultury francuskiej. Dobrze ubrani ludzie, studenci z książkami, elegancki budynek… oraz mnóstwo kamer, zasieków i uzbrojonych ochroniarzy…

One of the few places that seem to look like a civilization. French Ambassy and a Center of French Culture. Well dressed people, students with books, nice building… and lots of safety cameras, entanglements and armed security… Nice…

Lokalna firma. Dział Spedycji i Logistyki.

Local company. Logistics and Spedition Department.

Mozambik to kraj post-komunistyczny.

Mozambique is a post-comunist country. But seeing proves of it all around, you start to wonder if it really is 'post-’…

Pomnik "el Presidente". Pierwszego prezydenta wolnego Mozambiku. Ptaki mają chyba nieco odmienne zdanie o nim niż większość ludzi.

Monument of the President of the Republique of Mozambique.

Ratusz miejski. Jeden z bardziej eleganckich budynków w mieście. I jeden z nielicznych takich…

City Hall. One of the few renovated buildings in the city.

…Większość wygląda bowiem tak… Klimat rodem z postnuklearnego Fallout-a…

…Most of them look like this one. Like from post-nuclear 'Fallout’ game…

Wejście do Ministerstwo Zdrowia.

Entrance to the Ministry of Health. The graffitti proves that AIDS is one of the major problems in this country. The desease statistics are terrifying. You’d better not try to check them…

Budynek Ministerstwa Kultury przypominający Nautilusa…

The building of the Ministry of Culture seemed more like the Nautilus to me…

Unfinished buildings with reinforcing bars standing out on the top of them are a common view. In the entire Africa. As well as in the Mediterranean countries. I never figured out what is the real reason for that…

Spacer takimi uliczkami to średnia przyjemność…

Walking such streets doesn’t quite seem like a fun to me… And that is the very center of the town!

Here we can see suburbs…

Ten chłopiec bawiący się starą dętką rowerową zapadł mi głęboko w pamięć… Tym ludziom naprawdę niewiele potrzeba do szczęścia. Nie koniecznie Playstation. Zresztą, nie byłoby jej gdzie podłączyć…

I can still remember the boy playing with a bicycle tire… You realize how little they need to be happy…

Nie ma to jak lans…

There’s nothing better than promoting yourself…

Prawie każdy ma tam takie coś przed domem. U nas krasnale ogrodowe się lepiej przyjęły…

Almost everyone has one of these in the garden… I guess the Europeans liked garden brownies more…

Elegancko ubrana kobieta wracająca z targowiska zwracała na siebie uwagę. Jakoś nie pasowała mi do tego miejsca…

This woman coming from the market somehow catched my eye.. She didn’t quite fit there…

Dom wolnostojący na przedmieściu. Kusząca alternatywa dla postkomunistycznych wieżowców w centrum…

A private house in the suburb. A tempting alternative to the post-comunist sky-crapers in the center of the town…

I always wandered if they ever get bored with just sitting there whole day…

Dzielnica, która jest chyba ichniejszą Kalwarią Zebrzydowską. Istne zagłębie. Meble. Tanio. Dowóz gratis…

Their own furniture district. A real Wooden Valley. 'Cheap furniture! Free transport only for you, my friend! '…

I to by było na tyle…

That’s all folks!…

May I just say what a comfort to discover someone who genuinely
knows what they are discussing on the web. You actually know how to bring a problem to light and make it important.
More and more people ought to look at this and understand this side of the
story. I was surprised you aren’t more popular because you certainly
possess the gift.
